Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya Tritiya is a sacred occasion regarded as highly propitious for performing auspicious activities. Akshaya means immortality or imperishability. It is believed that this day will lead to unending growth, expansion and success and hence, is considered most suitable for starting new endeavors, undertaking important activities and for acquiring precious things and assets. Tritiya is the third day of the month. Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of Shukla Paksha, the bright fortnight in the Hindu month of Vaishak or the Tamil month of Chiththirai, which corresponds to April–May.
People can perform austerities, celebrate marriages and offer worship on Akshaya Tritiya day. Also, doing charities on this day is considered very special, which can get people divine blessings and bestow them with prosperity, fortune and success in life.
Akshaya Tritiya and Marriages
Akshaya Tritiya holds a special significance for marriages, which remain perhaps as the most auspicious activity performed on that special day. For conducting a marriage on any other day, a Muhurta, an auspicious time needs to be arrived at, whereas there is no such requirement for an Akshaya Tritiya- day-marriage, as the whole day is regarded extremely auspicious. Hence, weddings and mass-weddings are all conducted specially on this day at many places.
There are however people, both men and women, for whom the wedding bells don’t ring that easily. While, there may be many reasons for such delays in marriages, the inauspicious positioning or movement of planets like Saturn, Venus, Mars and Rahu with respect to a person, as reflected in the horoscope can be cited as one of the main reasons for it.
However, the auspicious Akshaya Tritiya can provide remedies for clearing such inauspiciousness and pave the way for early and successful marriages.
Remedies for delay in Marriages
Here are some simple austerities that can be performed as a remedy for delayed marriages:
Men who are looking for a bride, can chant the mantra
‘PatningManoramangdehimanovrittanusarinimtariningdurgasansarsagarasyakulodbhawaam’,
while women looking for a life partner can recite the mantra
‘Om gang ghraun gang shighravivahasidhayegauryenfatta'.
The mantra chanting as above can be started on the Akshaya Tritiya day and continued for 4 consecutive days. The mantras should also be chanted 3 times a day with the help of the turmeric beads. On the 4th last day, the Pooja can be completed with the offering of prayers to the Goddess. People can then take the turmeric bead rosary to the temple of Goddess Parvati and drop it there.
